Calvin's (old) page

September 21, 2007 It's been three months since the last update. A lot has happened this Summer: Russ's parents visited for three weeks and we all went on a roadtrip to Shasta and Oregon, Russ played stay-at-home-dad for six weeks while my mother went back to Taiwan for a much needed break, Calvin started preschool, Owen started crawling and my company went IPO. All in all a very exciting and at times chaotic Summer.

June 22, 2007 Owen had his four month checkup yesterday. This time he had to get FOUR shots! My poor baby was purple in the face by the time it was over. I wish I could've gotten those shots for him. He was measured at 14 pounds 3 ounces and 24.25 inches. Compared to Calvin whom at his four months checkup was 15 pounds 3 ounces and 25 inches. In the last month Owen had been trying to sit up whenever we put him in his bouncer (he has since succeeded, but tips over after a while). He also started playing in his jumper and today got his first taste of rice cereal. We also let him suck on a piece of watermelon a couple of days ago which he couldn't get enough of.

Calvin continues to pick up more words, numbers, phrases and ideas. His grammar is also improving very quickly. He likes art work (especially cutting papers), swimming, playing computer games and anything that involves lots of movements and laughters. For Father's day he gave Russell a poster he colored himself (mommy helped with the drawing). He also got to play the Nintendo GameCube that mommy got for daddy, which mommy is trying hard to limit his access to three times a week.

May 10, 2007 Owen had his 2.5 month checkup where he got his first set of vaccinations. He took it like a real trooper - making sure everyone within a mile radius knew just how displeased he was. He was measured at 12 pounds 2 ounces and 22.25 inches, right on target. He's now able to lift his head and shoulders up for an extended period, make loud cooing sounds (especially when he's excited) and constantly break into big smiles. Calvin continues to enjoy his time at his daycare, learning more things than I can keep up. He now recognizes all of the numbers one to ten and some, most of the alphabet and has a really rich set of vocabulary. Both he and Owen enjoy each other's company (I've yet to see any sign of jealousy or resentment from Calvin, he's obviously got a big heart and loves his little brother). Owen especially loves it when Calvin plays peek-a-boo with him.

April 4, 2007 Owen Kai-Shiang ('Shiang' means to soar) Smith joined our family on February 16, 2007. He came in at six pounds eight ounces and was nineteen inches tall. Like his big brother, Owen had his father's red hair and his mother's button nose. He had dark eyes like his mother's and sweet little dimples at the corner of his mouth. He arrived over a week earlier than expected and as a result was born a puppy instead of a piglet. Calvin has been a wonderful big brother to Owen - soothing him when he fussed and offered to hold the bottle.

My side of the family was in town to celebrate the new year and to meet the new member of our Smith-Chou Clan.
