Santa Barbara/Palm Springs Trip Log, December 2008
 Nice hotel room.  Very, very nice.  In case you want to hug a pineapple to sleep...they've thought of it.  Looking inland from the pier at Stearns Wharf.  Patient dog.  Ya looking at me?!  Whale food.  Some love don't last.  Beach front.  Solvang, a Danish village in America.   Bluetooth was named after this king.  The Danish know how to build cute houses...  ...and save on electricity.  The Santa Barbara Mission, est. 1786 by the Spanish Franciscans.   The Mission at sunset.      Windmill farms with snowy peaks as the backdrop. Outside of Palm Springs.  Riding quad bikes in the sand dunes.  View of the desert once we rode to the top of the sand dunes.  We're told to ride it like a camel. Sure, I know how to do that.  A train passing through.  Looking at Palm Springs from Tahquitz Canyon.  A river runs through it.   The picture doesn't do the colors justice. My camera sucks.  The pipe was used to redirect the water.    At the other end of the trail we're rewarded with a waterfall.  Lots of interesting rock formations and colors in the canyon.  A little rest by the fall.   Excellent hiding place for lizards.  I wonder what minerals here cause the colors of the rocks.   The placement and shape of the rock suggests it may have fallen off the side of the mountains.   Don't disturb the bear when it's feeding.  Man-made rock art over 1000 years ago (i.e. olde time graffiti).  Rocks with web-like patterns.  Evidence that our hotel room was haunted. |
